MAKE SPACE
Dear Friends,
Welcome
to our yearly family review. As usual, the purpose of this page is to
share
with you how we have been this past year. Here is a quick summary: The four of traveled on vacation to
Brazil; Sasha graduated from Michigan and got a job in New York
City; Alec is midway through his sophomore year at Carnegie
Mellon; Lucia is really into ballroom dancing; and Mauricio
traveled to many places for work.

Lucia
and Mauricio still live in Holmdel, New Jersey. Now that Sasha and
Alec are no longer living with them, the house sometimes seems a little too
big for just the two of them. Friends, please keep coming to visit!

The
entire family traveled to Brazil for vacation in May. It had been
five years since the four of us traveled there together. In fact,
Alec had not been in Brazil since 2005. |  |

While
in Rio, Mauricio and Lucia stayed at João Lauro Facó’s place on
Pepe Beach and the kids stayed either with their cousins, at a hotel, or
at the Barra da Tijuca apartment of Gilberto and Angela Veiga,
Geraldo Veiga’s brother and sister-in-law. |

Since
Sasha and Lucia were only staying for two weeks, we had to pack lots
of activities into a short amount of time. Besides visiting friends and family
in Rio and Itaipava, the four of us traveled two hours north of Rio to Búzios, a
beach town we have been going to since the kids were little. |  |  |

In
Rio, Alec hung out with his cousins Gabriel and Leonardo as well as
with friend Nick and was introduced to the Rio night club scene,
where the drinking age is 18. Alec stayed in Rio for another 10 days
after Lucia and Sasha returned home. He spent another weekend in
Búzios with his cousins and friends. He finally returned home on June 12th. |

Búzios we drove straight to Itaipava, where Mauricio’s mom,
Renalva, lives. There, we hosted a barbecue (churrasco) for friends
and Lucia’s mom, brother, sisters, nephews, niece, and significant
others. Maureen, Mauricio’s late brother Roberto’s widow, and kids
Thomas, Dominique, and Alexia also came up to Itaipava. Jayme
Guimarães, longtime friend of Mauricio's from grade school at Escola
Americana, also came to Itaipava for the weekend. | |

After
traveling for a week to Buenos Aires, Mauricio came back to Rio and
stayed another 10 days working with Celso Ribeiro. |  | |
