Optimization and the Internet

ABSTRACT

The Internet has created enormous opportunities for optimization researchers. These opportunities can be described in three major areas: increased information transfer, alternative software distribution channels, and the creation of an online optimization community. While past academic and professional organization efforts are now being supplemented by extensive commercial operations, there are still tremendous opportunities for further efforts, particularly in the creation of online, specialized communities.
