ABSTRACT

Location problems deal with finding the best location for one or more facilities that optimize some objective. Such facilities may provide service to a given set of customers, may be a nuisance to a set of points, or may compete with other facilities to attract customers. Location models differ by the nature and the number of the facilities, the way the distance is measured, the existence of constraints on the locations, the nature of the parameters, and other considerations. Solution techniques vary from combinatorial procedures to analytical techniques. Some problems may require unfeasible computer resources for solving reasonable size problems. Heuristic approaches are developed for such problems.
