Mauricio's mom, Renalva, and aunt, Rubinete, in ItaipavaIn April, Mauricio flew to Pittsburgh to meet up with Lucia and Alec and attend an orientation for students accepted to CMU's school of computer science.  Mauricio had to stay in New Jersey because there was a risk of a strike being called by AT&T unionized workers.  Mauricio would have to go to Connecticut to work as a 411 telephone operator. Luckily the strike was called off.  After taking on average 8 hours each way to fly to Pittsburgh (counting getting to and from airports, delays, etc.), Mauricio and Lucia decided it is better to drive in 5-6 hours.
