continues to work at AT&T in Middletown, New Jersey. Until
now, Lucia had resisted supervisory positions. This year,
however, she relented and now has the title of Director of Network Engineering. |  |

traveled twice to Brazil this year. In May her sister Ana Lucia married
Paulo Roberto in Curitiba. Since Alec was still in class,
Mauricio could not accompany her. In December, her sister Vera
Lucia married Hélcio.
Lucia's
mom Maria Ignez, sister Regina, brother Lucio, nephew Gabriel, and
cousins Solange and Leo, as well as family friend Geraldo Veiga also
traveled to Curitba. Mauricio's sister Vilma, who lives in
Curitiba, attended the wedding and got to meet Lucia's family as
well as Geraldo.
Lucia's trip in December for Vera Lucia's
wedding was marked by rain, lots of rain. Lucia returned to New
Jersey less tanned than she was when she left.
While
in Rio, Lucia saw many friends, including Renato, Marisa, and Tony at
Gabriel's 14th brithday party. Gabriel is the son of Marisa and

 | In April Lucia
traveled with Alec to Pittsburgh to visit Carnegie Mellon. Mauricio was
in risk of having to do strike duty at AT&T and met them there one
day later. In August Lucia and Mauricio (each driving a different
car) took Alec (and his stuff) to Pittsburgh for start of classes.
After a week back in New Jersey, Lucia drove with Mauricio and
Sasha to Ann Arbor to help Sasha move into her new house. On the
way out as well as on the way back, they visited Alec in Pittsburgh.
Lucia
returned to her ballroom dancing this year. Besides having class
a couple of times a week, she frequently went to ballroom social
events. In Rio in December, she went to the Lapa district with
Ruy Milidiu (former graduate student colleague at Berkeley) to dance forró. Mauricio still hasn't started dancing but feels the pressure. |
